Open interest (OI)

The total USD value of open positions on a venue.

Open interest, or OI, is the total US-dollar value of all outstanding perpetual positions on a venue at a given moment.

Higher open interest generally signals deeper, more active markets, which usually means tighter spreads and less slippage when you trade in size.

OI is one of the columns on our rankings, alongside 24h volume.
